About The Blog
The Story
What moves each of us to make changes in our lives? For me my long journey to a healthy, happy life began as I asked questions about the family I came from. Why they lived with chaos and dysfunction. Even as a child I knew life could be better, peaceful and enjoyed. Not until I became a young adult making bad choices and living in the same dysfunction did I learn to break free from it. Education is the way out of darkness, dysfunction and hopelessness. I became an RN graduating from Arizona State University 1995. From then until now I have explored the human mind, beliefs and behavior learning how through knowledge we can change and grow into our full potential. I hope this blog helps you on your journey to becoming the best you can be.

Our Education
How much do you know abour mental health? People with mental distress can experience problems in the way they think, feel or behave. In
other words, their thinking, feeling and behavior is all mixed up. This significantly interferes
with their relationships with other people, their work, and enjoyment of life.
Having mental distress can be difficult for the person and difficult for the family. But, it is not something to be ashamed of.

Our LifeStyle Choices
Mental health can be greatly influenced by lifestyle factors. While professional help should be sought if you are suffering symptoms of a mental illness, there is much you can do to help yourself manage daily life.
Diet
Fitness
General physical health
Sleep
Healthy daily routine
Relaxation
All effect our state of mind.

Our DNA
We are made up of trillions of cells.
Each cell has its own job, just like humans do. Some cells help us detect light and see, other cells help us touch, some cells help us hear, other cells carry oxygen around, other cells help us digest food by secreting enzymes. There are over 200 cell types in the body - that is 200 different jobs!
But how does each cell know what job to do ? Well how do we (humans) know what job to do? Someone tells us. Our cells are also told what to do, but not by a person or a computer! Our cells are told what to do by a very special molecule called DNA.

Welcome!
As a mental health, nurse mom, wife, friend, sister and neighbor, people are always asking me for advice around mental health. Sometimes they are in crisis other times they have concerns. I love sharing all I have learned over the past 25 years working in the world of psychiatry and addiction medicine. Many times I have information to help people navigate their way toward better health and wellness. Lets open the conversation about mental health. Mental Health issues are very common, so no more silence, no more secrets.
